Northeast Metro 916 Intermediate School District responds to the unique needs of students, educators, and school districts with innovation, quality, and trusted experience.

Northeast Metro 916 is one of four intermediate school districts in Minnesota offering specialized and shared programming that includes career and technical education, special education services, area learning centers, and care & treatment programs. Through the sharing of resources, talent, and ideas, Northeast Metro 916 provides cost-effective, expert, and reliable services to 13 member school districts and the students and families we collectively support.

  • Intermediates provide services that member districts individually find difficult or too costly to provide on a smaller scale.

  • Intermediates are able to leverage economies of scale resulting in lower costs to member districts, coupled with the ability to access a great variety of specialized services.

What is an Intermediate School District?

  • There are four intermediate school districts in the Twin Cities Metro area: 287, 288, 916, and 917.

  • 100% of service costs are based on the needs identified in a student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP).

    Sharing staff and resources is a cost-effective way for traditional school districts to provide highly-specialized educational programs to students, families, and schools.

    Intermediate districts operate on a fee-for-service basis. Revenue to fund student services is generated by tuition billing.
